“Do you like me? Check yes or no.” Remember when meeting someone was that simple? It can be again! Single people, ages 25-45, are invited to attend Hardbound to Heartbound: Speed Dating at Your Library on Saturday, Feb. 11, 7 p.m., Benson Branch, 6015 Binney St. Speed dating is a fun and easy way for singles to meet many potential dates in one evening. Participants will each have three minutes to chat with a potential match, and if two people mutually indicate interest in each other, they will be given information to schedule a real date on their own. That’s what happened to Andrew Roger and Jillian Liesemeyer at last year’s speed dating event. “It’s like sending notes in school,” said Roger. “You are anxious, but it’s exciting to see if they will like you, too.” The couple received each other’s contact information the following Monday, and after exchanging emails for nearly a month, they set up a real date. They are still together today. Omaha Public Library’s event is no ordinary speed dating experience. Hardbound to Heartbound is for people who are looking for love, ways to meet new people or an alternative to the bar scene on a Saturday night. No fear, however — a cash bar is available at the event. People participating in the event are encouraged to bring their favorite book as a conversation starter if they like, or other topics will be provided. More than 70 people participated in last year’s speed dating event. At least one couple did make a connection and now describe their relationship as “serious.” The event is free, but registration is required. Refreshments will be served and fantastic door prizes will be drawn throughout the evening. To register for this fun-filled evening, call 402.444-4800 or visit omahalibrary.org.
